Who Hath Believed Our Report?

Who Hath Believed Our Report - Isaiah 53

Isaiah has also been called “The Gospel of Isaiah” for it very vividly pictured and foretold the sufferings of Christ and the glory which should follow.

Though written about 730 years before Christ (706 BC), it reads more like a history than a prophecy, for it foretells so clearly who Jesus Christ is and what he would do.

Isaiah 53 is applied directly to Christ 7x in the New Testament in: Matthew 8:17, Mark 15:28, Luke 22:37, John 12:37-38, Acts 8:32-33, Romans 10:16, and 1 Peter 2:24-25.

The Gospel is a Report

God is not going to give you signs from heaven, BUT A REPORT.

“This thing was not done in a corner…” (Acts 26:26). God has given a clear report of what Christ did.

You cannot see it with your own eyes. You must believe the message of it. Even many who did see it rejected.

Many have said, “If God is real, let Him appear to me.” But God *did* appear to men, and walked among them for 33 years in the flesh, yet they did not believe Him. If you won’t believe His report, you would not believe Him if you saw Him.

The Gospel is Our Report

Isaiah did not call it “my report”, but “our report.” Isaiah was not alone in his proclamation of the gospel and neither are you.

This is the report of all the holy prophets of old, from the foundation of the world:

“And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.” – Luke 24:27

“And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.” – Luke 24:44

It is the report of the apostles and prophets, upon which same foundation we are built as them.

“And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone.” – Ephesians 2:20

This is the report of God Himself, the gospel message preached by Christ himself, and of God the Holy Spirit who inspired the Word and who empowers the preaching of this report.

The gospel is our report, and if you preach this gospel you are in good company.

There Are Few Who Believe the Gospel

Who hath believed our report?” – Isaiah 53:1

The fewness of the believers of the gospel is no discredit to the gospel. This verse (Isaiah 53:1) was quoted by Christ and Paul concerning the mass willful rejection of the gospel.

“…But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?” – John 12:37

“And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?” – Romans 10:15-16

The Weakness of the Reporter is No Discredit To The Gospel

Think of Paul, whose bodily appearance and presence was offensive to the Corinthians. Remember the apostles, of whom some were ignorant and unlearned fishermen. Yet they preached the gospel, which is the power of God unto salvation, and saw multitudes converted by the power of that gospel.

Why Are There Few Who Believe The Gospel?

Because of Ignorance

Many don’t know and don’t care to know

“For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.” – Acts 17:23

Because of the Power of Satan to Blind Their Minds

“In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” – 2 Corinthians 4:4

Because of Their Own Sinful Desires

“And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.” – John 3:19-20

Because of Religious Deception

(Jesus said to the Pharisees) “Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.” – Matthew 21:31

Most of the Jews wanted an earthly king – not salvation from their sins

Today men want a “Jesus” to fix their problems but not to save them out of their sins. Joel Osteen and other false prophets preach a “Jesus” that offers “Your Best Life Now”. That is not the Jesus of the Bible. Today many present Jesus as a “Get Out Of Hell Free” card. Today we are bombarded by such a man-centered gospel. But the Bible declares a Christ-centered gospel.

When people today find out that Jesus is a Saviour from sin and a Lord to rule their lives, they reject and scorn him just like the Jews did, and they invent a “Jesus” of their own imagination. 2 Corinthians 11:4 warns us of “another Jesus”, “another spirit”, and “another gospel”. MOST BAPTISTS TODAY teach and preach another “gospel” that is totally foreign to the Bible. Many in Baptist churches scorn holiness and comfort people to continue in their sins.

“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;” – Titus 2:11-12

There are many false reports, but only one true gospel, and few who believe that gospel

Evangelist, don’t be discouraged at peopl’s rejection of the gospel. Remember:

Christ Himself Was Despised

He is not the “cool” Jesus of contemporary Christianity. He was despised and rejected of men.

The Gospel Itself Is A Despised Truth

“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” – I Corinthians 1:18

The Gospel Was Preached By Despised Persons

“For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.” – 2 Corinthians 10:10

I ask you: Who hath believed our report? If there are but few who believe, are you one of those few?

(Jesus said) “…strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” – Matthew 7:14

Can you call it “our report?” Are you broadcasting that report?
